DIY Water Filtration

Here is a simple design and easy to build water filter. All you need is a plastic bottle, sand, gravel. small piece of cotton and activated carbon (you can find it at Walmart/pet stores and wherever aquarium supplies are sold).

This filter should last 2 to 4 weeks before you have to change carbon. remember to rinse activated carbon before using it (or water will have a blackish color)

It would be perfect for purifying dirty tap water, rain water, moving water sources where biological contamination is low etc. but if you’re purifying stagnant water (for instance swamp water) i would boil it as well.
