This Works Better Than Char Cloth In Damp And Windy Conditions!
Using Char Cloth to catch a spark to start a fire is a tried and trusted method. However, after you watch the video below you may find yourself replacing your char cloth with some very fine steel wool. You won’t believe how quickly it catches a spark and how hot it burns. This means that it will work better than char cloth in damp conditions! Also, steel wool is great when it’s windy.
I loved the part in the video where he builds a little nest by rolling up wood shavings inside the steel wool, he then adds few more shavings to the top and setting them alight!
The only downside is that unlike char cloth, you can’t make any more when out in the field.
Just remember that the steel wool will burn hotter than char cloth so keep your fingers away 🙂
